形態特徵

• Trees, evergreen. Trunk solitary, 3-6 m tall, 20-30 cm in diam., gray brown, covered with triangular scars of petioles.
• Leaves pinnately compound 2.15 m long, 50 cm wide, rigid; leaflets 2-4, linear, spinelike at tip, entire, 38-48 pairs, greenish gray, induplicate, 27-50 cm long, 3-3.8 cm wide, veinlets ca. 10, parallel on each side of midvein, with about 19 in pairs spiny at base of petioles; petiole 20-30 cm long, 6.5 cm in diam.; sheath net-like, fibrous brown, flattened above, rounded beneath.
• Inflorescences 90 cm long, 40 cm across, interfoliar, spathe 70-100 cm long, 8 cm across; rachis and rachillae yellowish green to yellowish oranged; staminate flowers 3 mm long, 9 mm wide; sepals 3, yellow, triangular, connate, 2 mm long, 3 mm wide; petals 3, white, 4.5 mm long, 3 mm wide; stamens 6, 3 mm long; anther 2 celled, yellow, 2.7 mm long; filaments nearly absent to 3 mm long; pistillodes 0.15 mm long, 3 lobed; pistillate flowers 4.5 mm long, 3 mm across, sepals 3, triangular; petals 3; ovary 2.5 mm in diam., globose, 3 celled; styles 3-lobed, white, 2 mm long; stigmas brown; ovule 1 in each cell.
• Fruit ellipsoid, 1.4 cm long 0.9 cm in diam., green, orange yellow or blackish; seeds 1.25 cm long, 0.7 cm across, grayish brown, grooved on 1 side; germinating in 16-18 days.

分布

• 台灣 : hills and dry seashores, now cultivated in gardens for ornament throughout the island.
• 世界 : Southeast China, Hainan, and Hong Kong.
